Obstetrical fistulas

This condition was first brought to my attention by a team mate and has been brought back to my attention recently by her. It is such a sad and preventable condition that I want to make people aware of it. Obstretical fistulas are actually one of the reasons (amongst MANY others) our team has started up a training centre for girls (Girls Training Centre)

Please take time to read about it and to pray...for the young girls suffering with it and for the people who are doing all they can to try to help them. For those of you who can understand French, there was a program done on Radio-Canada yesterday about Niger and its problems with pregnancy. It is entitled: Dying in order to give life.  There is an African proverb that says that a woman who becomes pregnant has one foot in the grave and this mini-documentary explains why.  The most surprising statistic they give is that every 2 minutes, a woman in Sub-Saharan Africa dies due to complications in childbirth.
